How many female Russian soldiers were killed in action in WWII?

Around 800,000 women were mobilized for service with the Red Army and 490,235 ended up serving in the Army and the Navy. Up wards of 40% of all soviet medical personnel were female. But unfortunately casualty statistics for women are not well recorded in soviet records.

The Krivosheyev volume, which is a massive tome written by a colonel-general Krivosheyev with aid from other soviet officials. The point of the book was to try and pinpoint an accurate number of soviet dead, wounded, etc. It contains no casualty statistic for women, it does however offer up this little quote on the subject of women casualties:

many of them did not return from the war

Getting an accurate number is next to impossible, especially if you want to add in the amount of women who died in partisan operations (we don't even have an accurate number for how many partisans there were).

A good book to read on the subject is "Barbarossa the axis and the allies" by John Erickson.
