Yes, it was a common occurance during ww2. Russian soldiers have used "Urrah" (or "Ura") with a very long last a as a battle cry for a charge for a long time, at least since the Russo-Ottoman War of 1877.
Compare to the US Marines and their "Oorah!" war cry.
It is still done at the victory parade in Moscow every year.
