However directly after the unification, there were very pronounced divisions between north and south Italy and the risorgimento caused people of different ethnic and nationalistic backgrounds to be unified. Many did not feel at all unified afterwards and creating an army from an deunified force is difficult. This is the only thing i could think of why the army was "bad" in relation to the unification.
