Have there been female explorers who sailed for example to America and found new land? Or were their only male explorers/captains like Columbus, Magellan, Vespucci, ...?
Most female explorers and travelers began receiving publicity around the early 20th century when progressive women's movements were beginning to take shape. Before then, there are little records of any female explorers mostly because "exploring" was an extremely unusual occupation for women in the age of exploration.
