Pre 1492 would the people who lived in what is now New England have been aware of the existence of the Mayans and/or the Aztecs?

For reasons similar to those I explained here, the answer is "probably not." There would have been awareness and trade with the Southeast, but nothing to indicate any sustained contact or significant awareness of points further south. What's now southern Texas and northeastern Mexico seems to have been a rather abrupt disconnect between cultures, at least around the time of Contact.
