I'm not going to talk too much about it, besides talking about the accounts on Clinton presented in Hardball by Chris Matthews. It's a fantastic book, and in it he details Clinton's obsession with political figures from a very young age (including how he was rumored to have only applied to Georgetown, because he wanted to be in the thick of politics). Clinton's autobiography says he decided he wanted to be a public official by the age of sixteen.
While I don't necessarily want to common on if this is uncommon, Clinton definitely wanted to reach political positions high up, and it's very likely that he worked consciously towards the presidency.
