Can a contemporary Greek reader/speaker read aloud a Classical Greek text and understand it?

Like contemporary Latin speakers who can read ancient Latin texts aloud and understand them.

As I understand it, it's a little like trying to make sense of old English. While I can "read" the Canterbury Tales, I won't understand every single word, because the language has shifted. It's similar with Greek.

Technically, the only contemporary Latin speakers (I think) are those who have studied classical Latin. I'm less certain of that, though.
