I tried to read the rules and FAQ and did not see how this question may break the rules

If you have read our rules properly, you would have known we don't allow questions concerning the current day or the future.

But quite simply, the similarities are very, very broad and simple. They do not really follow any of the complexities of what led up to WWII, nor is our world even close to resembling the world of 1914 or 1939. One of the main reasons to why the wars did indeed become global was because most of the powers involved had overseas colonies which spread the fighting from the plains of Europe to the jungles of New Guinea and beyond.
