The Eastern Origins of Western Civilization by John M. Hobson. I'm a fan of provocating texts and this book challenges the Eurocentric view of many inventions or discoveries. Many works are a bit tame and even though it's obvious that they are arguing against someone/something, it's like if they are afraid of making enemies. This work doesn't really hold back and although it's not focused on any of the historical areas that I'm mainly interested in, it's my go-to book when people argue that history is a useless subject.
I've removed this because it's too general of a request for sources. You can submit a more specific request, check out the book list in the sidebar, or post in the Saturday sources feature.
