Has there ever been an independent Kurdish state?

As in an independent state that governed all or more people who self-identify as Kurds, no. When the first references to a Kurdish people were made, the area of modern Kurdistan would have been ruled as local kingdoms/emirates.

Kurdish nationalism only arose while they were under the control of the Ottoman Empire, and since then they've been divided among the various states in the area.
