I have always been intrigued by this. The sun never set on the United Kingdom and they discovered spices and exotic foods from all over the world. How did their food become so broken?
Well, if this wasn't already such a terrible question and obviously trolling, I'd point out that hearty English food does indeed have flavour. We invented such delicacies as the roast dinner, Shepherds Pie and of course the lancashire hotpot.
And the sandwich.
