Did the invention of the printing press cause the renaissance?

The printing press fueled an extraordinary growth of ideas, art, and culture. However, it dates from about 1450-1460, during which time the only book printed was the Bible. So it took 10+ years after its invention before any other books were accessible. Meanwhile, the Renaissance began in the late 14th, early 15th century--more than 50 years before the printing press. It's beginnings were in painting and sculpture in Italy, while the printing press began in Germany and with words, not art. So basically, it didn't start the Renaissance--time and place were wrong. But it helped the Renaissance pick up steam and become more influential in Europe.
