I've been doing a lot of research into my grandfather's time in WWII recently and have stumbled upon a roadblock. I recently found an immigration form from the end of the war, documenting his return to the US from Europe. On it, his title is listed as "FTC" or "TTC". I've tried everything I can think of to find out what that title means but haven't had any luck. All of the other titles are fairly obvious.
There's also a "Plane Number" listed: 2269. Is there any way to look up Air Corps plane numbers?
Thanks for your help!
I'm fairly certain FTC is "Flight Training Command," though most of the better sources I can find have abbreviations like "CFTC" for "Central Flight Training Command" - not just "FTC." Did the immigration officer just get lazy, perhaps?
I think it looks most like "F/TC." There were several technical ranks that had a slash in them, but no "F/TC" or "T/TC."
Alternatively, it was also a convoy code between Frances and the River Thames, but I don't think that's what would be recorded as a title.
Edit: If it was TTC, that could be "Technical Training Command."
Edit: Here's a massive database of serial numbers from US planes. Not sure if just those four numbers will be enough to find anything useful.
