How accurate is the movie: The longest day? 1962

I can see it being accurate because it was filmed relatively shortly after the war. On the other hand, certain facts may have not come out yet.

It's dated for sure, but I find it to be fairly accurate. It is based on Ryan's book of the same name. A number of real locations were used, including Pegasus Bridge and Pointe du Hoc. The 'Ruperts' (dummy parachutists) were overly elaborate, but that's not too bad. The Canadians were snubbed by being left out, and there was no seawall demolition on the real assault. The film gets the major things right and takes a bit of artistic license here and there.

But that cast! John Wayne, Sean Connory, Henry Fonda, Robert Wagner, and more. This movie is flat-out incredible. There's one scene featuring a very long single take that is just breathtaking. (Edited to add: I found the scene. It goes from 19 seconds to 1:45, and it remains one of my favorite war movie effects of all time.)
