The 60's saw a huge shift in opinions, culture, and laws in America. There seems to be this swift realigning of peoples attitudes as opposed to the previous thirty years from Great Depression to Korean War. What was the event or series of events that caused such change in a span of less than a decade? (Side note, I've been told it was a change from country first to me first attitude, could it really be described as that?)
Civil Rights were a huge factor, as was the swiftly escalating Vietnam War and a move away from McCarthy-type politics and witch-hunts for "communists" back in the 50s. People realized that things were wrong with the country after all, and therefore took action in the form of protests and such.
