Mosin-Nagant or Ppsh-41? And which weapon was more favored? I know that more Mosin-Nagants were produced, but that is because they started production much earlier than the Ppsh.
Was the Ppsh ever standard issued? Or was the Mosin-Nagant standard issued all throughout the war?
About six million PPsH-41s were produced in total. Almost 18 million Mosin-Nagants were produced during WWII alone. At the start of the war, the Russians actually had more rifles than soldiers.
The PPsH was standard in some units. The tank desant/assault units generally carried them for preference, but regular infantry got the nagant most of the time.
