I'm a soldier soon to hit Omaha Beach on June 6th 1944. What is my day like on June 5th?

Once the orders were passed out that June 6 was "D-day", life would have been very busy. Final rehearsals, leader meetings, and for the average soldier, every item he carried would have been inspected thoroughly. A busy soldier does not have a lot of time to 'think" - aka 'worry' so aside from the requirements of last minute preparations, efforts would have been made to keep everyone 'busy'.

I am ex Army. I guess before anything interesting happens you usually are sitting around doing little more than perhaps cleaning of the guns or relaxing.

The reason being that the officers would be busy with orders groups and the senior NCO's would be with them. Whilst they are away the soliders would be doing as little as possible. I would imagine trying their hardest to avoid working parties.
