Hello, can anyone give me confirmation or some info about a greek city that used to kick out the citizens once they started to get older? I seriously don't know if I dreamt that or read it somewhere. Thank you.
You might be thinking of the practice of 'ostracisation' (from 'ostrakon', shards of pottery which would be written on), a yearly Athenian custom in which a citizen was thrown out of the city for a set number of years, on pain of death, supposedly in order to prevent one individual from becoming overly influential in the democracy.
