[META] All Rise! AskHistorians presents its latest and greatest, the astonishing, astounding, and tremendously stupendous NEW MODERATORS!

by vertexoflife

It's that time of times again! That glory of glories and the happiest joys, where we introduce the new moderators of the best, brightest and most amazing subreddit on the whole wide intertubes!

Joining us today are:

/u/depanneur of Pre-Norman Ireland Expertise! Their fearsome reputation precedes them, and if you ever need a mate to help you out of a tight spot, this is your mod!

/u/farquier of Medieval and Renaissance Painting and Manuscripts expertise! Not only can /u/farquier paint you into a corner, they can paint spam and terrible answers into oblivion!

and last, but not least....

/u/wee_little_puppetman of Viking expertise. I don't need to explain this one. Seriously, don't screw with /u/wee_little_puppetman.

Please give a hearty welcome to (and a good laugh at) our wonderful three!

Now you too get to see the terrible deleted comments! Welcome!

So:

/u/depanneur : how accurate is How the Irish Saved Civilization by Thomas Cahill? As a 1/4 Irishman, I've always felt duty-bound to love that book.

/u/farquier: why was it so rare (impossible?) for medeval painters to portray realistic human figures?

/u/wee_little_puppetman: I've read that the Icelandic Viking colonies loved beef and continually tried to raise cows (usually doomed to failure), even though goats would have been far more practical in that climate. Why? And how come as far as I know Iceland today is not a beef-centric culture?

Hey, look, I'm green!

Thank you everyone. I think I speak for all of us when I say that we'll try to keep up the proud tradition of this sub and its award winning mod team.

Huh, the three flairs are actually three points on the Medieval slave trade. I can only assume /u/wee_little_puppetman is going to capture /u/depanneur and sell him to /u/farquier.

zyzzogeton

Pretty big shoes to fill here. For example, I expect this comment to be deleted for lacking a source.

Good luck and Godspeed.

AnOldHope

...I don't remember being consulted about any of this...

HOORAY FOR /u/depanneur!! We needed some more Ireland around here. Congrats to all of the new mods.

LeftBehind83

Well deserved!

thejukeboxhero

Well I hope the flair drive has been successful enough to balance the effects of this runaway mod budget. I can't afford another increase in the flair tax.

Hoorah! Everyone break out the ceremonial alcohol and goat masks!

jschooltiger

Welcome all!

okfineverygood

Welcome! And also, thanks so much to all the other moderators for keepin it real.. Or at least well cited!

A related but unimportant question: why are some mod flairs purple while others have kept their speciality flair's color? It's driving me nuts.

S_D_B

Alors Depanneur, do you deliver? I'd like to know if that term is used outside of Quebec? I'd also like a case of Molson Ex and a bag of chips.

markevens

Thank you thank you thank you!

It is the moderation that makes me visit this sub every day, for the threads are dark and full of uncited sources.
