I think the best way you could do this is reading the FAQ on the subject, and doing some searching through previous questions.

Unfortunately, there is no concise way to explain the conflict (which has lasted in sharpest relief for only 100 years anyways, but can be said to have started in the 1880s) without giving you wholly biased interpretations to work off of.
