What would you recommend to someone who wants to research about the Puritans of the 1600s in America?

First of all, I'm really excited I found this subreddit :) I'm doing some research on the Puritans that moved to America back in the 1600s. What are some books or websites that you guys may recommend for me? I'd love to read on pretty much everything about that time. What it was like to live in a Puritan village, what the people did each day, etc. I'd appreciate any helpful info you guys can point me towards!!

You might enjoy reading the journal of their leader John Winthrop

Winthrop led the Massachusetts contingent of the Puritans (the Mayflower colony, Plymouth, was a separate enterprise led by William Bradford. He also wrote a book) Winthrop is the origin of the fabled city on a hill speech and knew they were doing something significant, thus the journal. He also convinced his friend Bradford to write the above history of Plymouth. Winthrop's journal comes in three volumes, the first link is to the first volume. It includes a great deal of information about the day to day life in Massachusetts including comings and goings, land disputes, etc...

I would recommend reading "The Island at the Center of the World" by Russell Shorto. It's actually about a colony that wasn't estabished by the Puritans, but it does include some very interesting details about those that were as well as contemporary views of their doings.

If you want a general overview I would recommend David C Hall's "A Reforming People: Puritanism and the Transformation of Public Life in New England." It's relatively new and is a good starting point for further research, plus his writing style is pretty accessible and easy to digest.
