There's the Barbary Wars against the Barbary States of North Africa and the Mexican American war could be one if you count the California Republic as a foreign force. There's also numerous fights with Native Americans throughout history and the Civil War was pretty much just Union and Confederates fighting. These are just off the top of my head but I'd say that the answer is yes, they have.
