So I've got these bullets...

by dambass

Hey Reddit. When my friend and I were kids, he'd stolen these three bullets from a box at the museum. I think they were loading fresh items into the building or something like that. He gave then to me one day, and they've just been lying around ever since. Do any of you guys know what gun they are from? I'd like to become wiser on the history behind these bullets. (:

First of all, you might find more luck at /r/whatisthisthing.

Second of all, we don't look very kindly at holding stolen museum artifacts. While we obviously can't make you do anything, by any measure of historical ethics (or just ethics in general), you really ought to return the artifacts. You don't know their historical value.

You know, if you return the bullets to the museum, its quite possible that the collections manager/curator might be able to look them up and give you some history. (although I don't see an accession number on them, and if they were taken long ago it might be difficult).

That and it's the right thing to do (from a museum collections guy perspective that is).

ww2colorizations

In my opinion, they are ww1 or ww2 German 9mm, nothing special unless they belonged to a certain display or historical piece. Most will have a date on them....I cant really read the numbers though. They will also have the "st" stamped, like yours do. Not a huge fan of donating to museums (seen too many negative things happen to Vet friends artifacts/groupings), however in your case it is certainly best to return them if you can.
