The earliest example to come to mind was Democritus, a contemporary of Aristotle, otherwise famous for first proposing the concept of the atom. It was a common belief among the Greeks of that time that Greek culture was superior to all others, including their mother-cultures and trading partners of Egypt and Phoenicia. Aristotle held to this opinion, like most men; Democritus, though, denounced him and taught each land could learn much from the others.
