Was the cold war really about philosophical differences on how to order a society economically or was it simply two entities wanting more power and influence?

It was power checking due to philosophical differences. Each side irrational misunderstood the other. This misunderstanding lead to fear. When either side started gaining power, territory, or allies than the other side sought to either disrupt is or counter balance it.

At the premise it was fear of of the differences, but it quickly moved beyond a simple fight of a communism/capitalism to Us/Ussr after both sides stopped gaining more physical territory.
