After Chinggis (Genghis) Khan's death in 1227, the Mongol Empire began to show cracks as the his sons, grandchildren and various other descendants began to squabble over power this resulted in a house divided which further added to the administrative nightmare that was the Mongol empire. As this happened the various regions of the empire began to become more and more autonomous and eventually cut all ties from the capital/main empire. This due to the waring descendants of Genghis as and in turn the most powerful Mongol “warlord” (for lack of a better word) in a given area took control of the area that they were in the Mongols in the west were gradually overthrown by the natives or married into the population and became one of them. There were rebellions such as the peasant rebellions in china in the mid-14th century culminating in the establishment of the Ming Dynasty by Zhu Yuanzhang in 1368, a The Mongols remained quite powerful for a while, and nearly saw a resurgence with Tamerlane, but essentially they were spent by the early 14th century.
