I have been having trouble finding information on a hat my mom passed down to me that she said was her brother's during the Vietnam War. I'm not really comfortable asking my uncle for the details since it caused him so much damage spiritually and physically so I was wondering if you guys would be able to help me or at least point me in the right direction/subreddit?
It looks like a Boonie Hat with a playboy patch on it but I can't tell for sure, and is the Playboy THE girlies Playboy or does it have a different meaning for them? I keep coming across something called the US Marines Radar Playboy but they don't look like this.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Pics: http://imgur.com/a/r4sDb
It is, as you point out, a Boonie hat with a Playboy patch on it. The patch seems to be done in theatre (i.e. made in South Vietnam), perhaps on his own requests or specifications. It is honestly nothing more than a regular, simple Playboy patch. In fact, looking at the design of the boonie hat itself, I am inclined to believe that this hat was not bought or issued to him in South Vietnam but bought while he was on R&R in, possibly, Thailand.
