Very popular. An Indian Film Festival in 1954 reportedly attracted nearly a million visitors. Bollywood films were regularly and widely distributed over the USSR and they were commercially successful as compared to movies produced within the USSR itself. Bolywood films still do well in former USSR countries and amongst former USSR émigrés around the world.
