Origin of Vlachs

by lamogio88

As a Vlach myshelf,I' ve been trying to find how we were formed as a group. We are the only ones in Southern Balkans talking a latin origin language. From what I' ve read till now,Vlachs are supposed to be desedants of Roman legeonaries, retired to nothern Balkan peninsula, who later migrated towards Macedonia. What do most historians think about the origin of Vlachs? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlachs

I' m wondering as a Greek,of Vlack origin

I believe the Vlachs were a group of Romanized Thracians living in what is today Bulgaria; and that they spoke a proto-Romanian language.

From what I know, around the year 600AD a large wave a slavic migrations to the area caused the local population to relocate. A large part of the vlachs went North, where they mixed with the Dacians and essentially became modern Romanians. Others went south to Greece and Albania and eventually became Aromanians, Megleno-Romanians, and Istro-Romanians.
