There seems to be so much that happened in this one year (French student protests, assassination of MLK, invasion of Czechoslovakia, election of Nixon, etc.) across the world. Is there any book that tries to discuss the common socio-economic factors that lead to one of the most tumultuous years in modern history?
I don't know of a good book but the film A Grin Without a Cat (French title Le fond de l'air est rouge ) is a good source on '68. It discusses the Situationist-influenced French New Left, The Prague Spring, Salvador Allende's rise in Chile, and incorporates some commentary on the era by Fidel Castro. It could be a good place to start.
