Here's a response I've written which discusses the problems of 'feudalism' and which goes on to describe a 'pre-feudal' world in a historical sense of post-Roman western Europe, and 'post-feudal' in terms of not using the historiographical language of feudalism. I am still working on the next post but will hopefully have that completed in the next couple of days.

Although you should define what you mean by feudal as it often means entirely different things to different people.
