How much of Muhteşem Yüzyıl (Turkish series based on the life of Suleiman the Magnificent and his wife Hürrem Sultan) is true?

by Xananax

The series is a soap, and an international success, in particular in Eastern Europe and Arabic Countries. Where it is called "Harim el Soltan", or "The Sultan's Harem. The series focuses on the role of Hurem Sultan behind the scenes, and internet research confirms that she was badass. However, sources are few and scattered, and I am curious to know how documented the series is?

I haven't seen the series but I've seen lots and lots of pictures. The costumes are not terribly accurate, but they're really gorgeous! Overall the silhouettes are overly modern and sexy, whereas they would have been a lot more dramatic and bulky.

I know this isn't what you really asked about but I love the costumes from the show (and there's not even a costume designer credited!). Let me know if you want to know more.

it's not accurate and by that i mean really not accurate they showed suleiman as a sex addict and a wine drinker something he wasn't and they showed his wife as a bad person hurrem and his other wife as if she has killed prince mehmed and also showed mustafa and ibrahim pasha as innocent and a lot more like rustem pasha's affairs and ibrahim pashas affairs and they showed suleimans sister cause of death as suicide and one of his sisters as a "slut" its really inaccurate
