I understand that European immigration was extremely disruptive to the lives of aboriginal peoples in the US and Canada. Did any group in particular survive European expansion better than other tribes? If so, why?
I would really appreciate it if you could clarify your question. Are you asking which tribe assimilated the best, or which group has maintained its traditions the longest? Or are you simply asking in terms of living members?
It's hard to get into specifics in this sub due to the 20-year rule, but the Inuit would be a strong candidate: the territory of Nunavut was organized in 1999 and Greenland's Inuit gained wide autonomy in 2009.
