Has a Muslim state never existed in the current region of Israel?

by plazsma

I recently watched this video, and the narrator seems to oversimplify everything. How accurate is he? And did there really never exist a Muslim state in Israel?

I think the point he is trying to make (although articulated very poorly) is that there has never been a Muslim state comprised predominantly of the region which the Romans called Palæstina. Since the fall of the Second Kingdom of Israel, the land has been held at various times by larger empires such as the Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Ummayad Caliphate, Abbasid Caliphate, Ottoman Empire, and British Empire. Throughout most of that time, its inhabitants consisted of both Christians, Muslims, and Jews of a wide variety of different sects. He's trying to argue that the concept of an Arab Palestine with a distinct cultural identity separate of that from the inhabitants of Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon, is fictitious.

The Ottoman Empire up until the beginning of the British Protectorate after WWI. Over the next twenty years, the Arab majority was slowly displaced by Jewish settlers from Europe and elsewhere before the establishment of Israel.
