Andrew Mango's Ataturk: The Biography of the founder of Modern Turkey (London: Overlook, 2002) is an voluminous and accessible biography. I would also suggest M. Sükrü Hanioglu's two books Atatürk: An Intellectual Biography ( Princeton: Princeton UP, 2011) and A Brief History of the Late Ottoman Empire (Princeton: Princeton UP, 2010). Hanioglu argues that both Ataturk and the state philosophy of Kemalism had clear antecedents in the late Ottoman political movement the Committee of Union and Progress.
