My uncle found this statue in a cave, on a rock shelf up high. We are trying to figure out its origin. It appears to be carved out of wood.
That looks like a Kannon (in Japanese), Guanyin (in Chinese). It is a very commonly revered bodhisattva in Buddhism, a goddess of mercy and compassion. You'll notice she's standing on a lotus.
