Is it even possible to establish whether the Jews inhabited Palestine before the peoples who are know today as Palestinians?
How does their history intertwine?
Any book suggestion on this would be much appreciated!
The people who inhabit palestine now were the jews in the past. Later on they converted to under the Eastern Roman Empire (broadly speaking "they"), and then after the Islamic conquests they converted to Islam. It's been the same people inhabiting the region the whole time, they just changed religions. The people who moved there to help with the founding of Israel, almost all Ashkenazi Jews, were not often of the original Canaanite ancestry and are have genes that can be traced back all around Europe and very very early lineages back in the region of Palestine.
