Throughout history, elite and unchecked forces have a habit of subverting the rule of their superiors - for instance, the Praetorian Guard. Could Himmler's SS have overthrown Hitler? Was there ever an attempt or discussion of a change of power by anyone but fringe revolutionaries like Colonel Stauffenberg? If so, how was it planned to occur? As many are familiar, most German troops of any capacity swore a solemn oath to Adolf Hitler, an oath of unquestioning allegiance. What was the real level of loyalty towards Hitler like in the armed forces, the SS, and the Gestapo?
