Could someone provide a comprehensive history on the conflict between Israel and Palestine?

I have been following the news lately about what is going on between Israel and Palestine right now. I think I have a pretty good grasp of the CURRENT conflict, but can someone give me a rundown of how it got to this?

Hi there,

This is a gigantic topic. There have been entire books written on it.

My personal suggestion, because there's no way I could write out anything less than a 50-page (at least 15 comments of 10k characters each) answer to this outlining the very very basics of the conflict, is to check out the AMA on July 19th that I'll be hosting (it will be stickied in this sub). It'll cover everything from Modern Zionism's advent (roughly 1880s) to Oslo I (not including Oslo, so stopping around 1992, due to the 20 year rule of no talking about the past 20 years and political situations still ongoing). You can ask more specific questions then, about facets of the conflict, and read those by others. But writing up that gigantic amount of history all at once is difficult at best, and would require so much time it would be difficult to finish before the AMA began.

One thing you can also do, just to see how vast the conflict is and how much I've had to write in the past, is check out this post which gives a basic overview of the conflict up to 1948. That's a good place to start, I think, and you'll be able to ask further questions past it.
