Why do so many countries have European sounding national anthems?

by elmntguy12

While watching the World Cup I noticed many of the nations (esp. South American and African nations) have national anthems that sound very similar to the big, famous, regal European ones.

I know the short answer to this is remnants of European colonialism, but do we have any specific reasons or events explaining why various nations didn't change their anthems to better reflect their historical/local cultures and identities?

Normally the new elite of excolonial country is european in the case or South America was the white minorty whit some suport or "las castas"(mixed between Euro and indian). Walter Mignolo has some articles on it about how the excolony rulers and society keep the Euro/colonial thinking. New eilte want to par the metropoly so they addopt they modus operadi and act like "civilized" state. Until late XX century (Evo Morales) indigenous culture is seen as antique and oposed to modernity that is in the European referents. Also in xix century when S.America get independent the rulers was afraid of blacks and indians as a social elements against the new power of the Criollos.
