There is debate on whether or not it is the same person. The facts of the siege of chartes, the treaty of ste clair-sur-epte and the baptizing of rollo are all agreed upon. The trick comes when looking at the sources. The older sources simply call him rollo or hrolf, the medieval historians however said that he was rolf the walker based on older histories that have become lost to time. Whether they inflated or even created the idea of rollo and the walker being one and the same is impossible to determine but tradition states that they are the same and until there is a document discovered from the time that definitively states one way or another, the debate will likely continue.
