What is the historical context of the word 'Junta'? Is any military government that leads from a coup, a junta?

The ruling government in Thailand is called a junta. Where does the term come from and are there other examples in history?

A junta is a government run by a committee of military leaders. It comes from the Spanish word junta meaning committee. There are several examples from history including Peru(1968-1980), Chile (1973-1990), the most recent being Myanmar which was run by a junta until 2011. Another notable example is my homeland, Greece which was ruled by the Χούντα (junta) also called the Regime of the Colonels from 1967-1974.
