How many immigrants were settled west of the original 13 colonies (i.e. California, Montana, etc.) around the time of the American Revolution? As "outsiders", how did they feel about the Indepence movement?

I think you are probably looking for states more like Florida, Ohio Tennessee, Kentucky. Anything further west than the Mississippi at that time might as well have been the Moon for most Europeans.

In Montana at the time of the American Revolution there was somewhere between 10-50 Europeans total. These were explorers and fur trappers and none are known to have made settlements expected to be permanent in the state. As they were nearly all French they would likely have wanted to see the British bloodied in retribution for the seven years war (French and Indian War)

In California the Spanish made their first serious attempts at colonization beginning about 1770 with ever larger missions continuing throughout the American Revolution. Being largely commissioned by the Spanish government these missions likely would have viewed the American Revolution as a troubling event. Although due to the work of trying to establish a colony most of the Spanish Colonists probably didn't think about it much if at all.
