Was there a Soviet version of storming the beaches of Normandy? (clarification in post)

What I mean is many times people in the U S will say that someone stormed the beaches of Normandy as a example of how brave they were. (you see this a lot in television and movies). Did the Soviets have something comparable to this?

I don't know why the above poster was being downvoted...The Battle of Stalingrad is a very good equivocation for the Allied landings on Normandy on the Western Front. In Russia, the battle was and is remembered in a highly romantic light. The city itself was awarded the title of "Hero City" by the Soviet Union in 1945 for the actions of its citizens in its defense. And those who had fought in the battle were, after the war, considered heroes and received especial respect by their countrymen. The battle has achieved a sort of "mythic" status within the Russian psyche, not unlike the beaches of Normandy for the Allies in the West.
