Haj Amin al-Husayni, served as Mufti of Jerusalem and was a prominent Palestinian Nationalist, worked with Germany during the war in a variety of ways including recruiting Muslim divisions for the SS. There was common ground to be had in the discriminate and damning cleansing of Jews. Tensions had already boiled over in Mandate Palestine with a failed Palestinian revolution that left Palestine's Jews stronger and the Arabs significantly weaker. Ironically enough, Germany facilitated Jewish immigration to Palestine and even cooperated with Zionist groups at times. As for British and French colonialism in the Middle East, enacted with the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire, Germany and anti-imperialists and Arab nationalists were also able to find common ground.
