What were the processes that lead to the abolition of slavery in the middle east and Islamic world.

I'm curious as to how slavery become abolished in the middle east and Islamic world. Did internal pressure lead to this or was external pressure more responsible? Did certain groups of slaves get freedom quicker than others?

I am waiting to see a proper answer here since I have the feeling that some sorts slavery still exist in some areas of Africa and the Middle East. For the curiosity in 1919 during the WWI Peace Conference at Versailles the Arab Emir Faisal who took part in Lawrence of Arabia Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire brought his own slave, you can see the picture here:

I'm not being smart but there are still significant slavery issues in many Islamic countries to this day. Mauritius has the highest rate of slavery in the modern world and is heavily Muslim.
