Did our ancient ancestors suffer from acne like we do today and if so how have we not become immune to its effects?
They did suffer from acne. According to Section of the History of Medicine by R. N. R. GRANT, Sulfur was one of the earliest treatment (and still used today). Aristotle, Hippocrates, and Pliny all mentioned acne in their writings. Cassius wrote in 3rd Century that the disease occurs during puberty.
Evolution only weed out traits that prevents the survival of the specie. Acne does not prevent breeding nor is it detrimental to human survival.
