With all of the napalm and Agent Orange missions done in America's longest war, do we know how much of the jungle was destroyed? (square mileage is what I'm curious about)
25 million acres(39,062.5 square miles) of farmland and 12 million acres(18,750 square miles) of forests were destroyed in South Vietnam as of 1976. According to The Vietnam Wars (1945-1990) by Marilyn Young.
I recently started reading Kill Anything That Moves by Nick Turse. His statistics: 12 million acres of forests subjected to saturation bombing. 70 million litres of herbicidal agents used. From 1965-1967 fires set by U.S. forces reportedly wiped out 100,000 acres of forest. In 1971, 20 ton Caterpillar tractors tore into parts of the Boi Loi Woods and, in 26 days, they cleared 6,037 acres - In all, American bulldozers may have torn up and plowed under as much as 2 percent of the entire land area of South Vietnam.
And just to be honest, I do get the impression that these statistics are on the higher end of the scale.
