How much has the Magyar history affected Hungary historical make up and is it relevant to there culture today?

I am doing some dissertation work, and I need to look into Hungarian history briefly and find how there past events affect there identity today. If anyone can give me brief understanding of the major points in the Magyar/Hungarian history or if anyone knows a good documentary or book would be god.

In the late 800s the Hungarians were united by one ruler named Árpád, they went on to conquer the whole of Carpathia and raided as far away as western europe, this ended mostly after a large defeat at Lechfield in 955 and raiding against the Byzantines ended in ~970, Due to these loses the links between tribes began to weaken

Géza, the ruling prince of part of the nation and nominal overlord of the seven tribes wanted to Christianise the nation. He chose his son, Vajk, as his succesor, which caused a stir as it should have chose his brother, Koppány. Following the death of Géza Koppány took up arms but he was defeated by Vajk, mainly by his use of foreign Christian knights. He was crowned late 1000/early 1001 with a crown sent by the Pope and set about Christianising the land and was known as Stephen the first, a Christian name to show how devout he was, he married Gisela of Bavaria, a Christian.
