When people on Reddit discuss criticism of millennials it's often said that older generations have always been very critical of younger generations, is there any historical basis for this?

Sorry, we don't allow throughout history questions. These tend to produce threads which are collections of trivia, not the in-depth discussions about a particular topic we're looking for. If you have a specific question about a historical event or period or person, please feel free to re-compose your question and submit it again.

“Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.”

-Socrates, supposedly attributed to him by Plato

Note, that the source is slightly unclear and has been attributed to many people, but the point remains the same that it is a very old quote.
